SWTC Advisor Adrian Garcia is becoming the first Hispanic elected to serve as the Harris County sheriff
SWTC Advisor Adrian Garcia is becoming the first Hispanic elected to serve as the Harris County sheriff. As a former chairman of the Houston City Council's public safety committee and a retired Houston police officer, Mayor Pro Tem Garcia will inherit an office with some 2,800 deputies and a more than $300 million operations budget. He said he hopes to add a SWAT team and a helicopter unit. Garcia's election means the City of Houston must hold a special election next May to fill his City Council seat, according to state law.
