A new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) center of excellence opened at the University of Hawaii at Manoa of which SWTC is an affiliate member

The mission of the National Center for Island, Maritime and Extreme Environment Security (CIMES) is to perform basic research in areas that will improve safeguards for key infrastructures in island and extreme environments as well as provide important environmental information in times of natural or man-made emergencies. CIMES is eligible to receive a grant of up to $2 million per year over the next four to six years
