The University of Houston’s Southwest Public Safety Technology Center (SWTC) played a notable role in the creation of the legislation to create the Houston Ship Channel Security District

The May-June issue of the Port of Houston Authority Magazine published an article on the proposed Houston Ship Channel Security District.The University of Houston’s Southwest Public Safety Technology Center (SWTC) played a notable role in the creation of the legislation to create the Houston Ship Channel Security District. The idea was first put forth by the Port Strategic Security Council (PSSC) which is now the Houston Ship Channel Security Council. In 2006, Harris County Judge Robert Eckels appointed Pat Bellamy to chair this group.
